Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO (Retired) was Chief of the Australian Army from 2018-2022.
His distinguished military career includes the first foreign officer to serve as Deputy Commanding General United States Army Pacific (2012-2014), commander of the 1st (Australian) Division and Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment, extensive experience in our Indo-Pacific region and in key command roles on operational service.
Lieutenant General Burr is an Officer of the Order of Australia, recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross and Member of the Royal Victorian Order. His leadership recognition includes the US Legion of Merit (twice) and Bronze Star Medal and other distinguished foreign honours.
He is a Certified Chair™ for best practice Advisory Boards, graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program, the Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership, the United States Marine Corps’ Command and Staff College and School of Advanced Warfighting. He holds a Master degree from the US Marine Corps University and Bachelor degree from UNSW.
Rick continues his focus on supporting the national interest, capability advantage and future leaders. His work portfolio includes Director at the AALD and strategic advisor to the University of Adelaide.
